Public-Community Slaughterhouse of l’Armentera
Since 2022, we have been working with the Escorxador de l’Armentera SCCL cooperative to consolidate the municipal slaughterhouse as a key infrastructure for short food supply chains. Our work focuses on strengthening a public–community governance model that supports local farmers and butchers, and sustains family farms through a small-scale, local slaughterhouse.
We combine action research, strategic planning, communication, and collective learning processes, including public events such as Recuperem els petits escorxadors (Let’s Bring Back Small Slaughterhouses), as well as new initiatives like F.U.E.T. These actions aim to modernise the infrastructure, expand the social base of the cooperative, and assess the replicability of the model across other municipalities and networks of small-scale slaughterhouses.
