Economy and commons

What is the wealth of a territory? The dominant answer to this question is to look at GDP. This magnitude measures the monetary value of public and private action but is incapable of measuring care work, community networks, and all the non-monetary activity that sustains our lives.

We coordinate and design programs to increase economic democracy and strengthen mutual support networks. We accompany the creation of public-community models and analyze their social and territorial impact. We generate metrics to make visible and value community wealth.

The housing challenge

For decades, many cities have left housing (and everything associated with it, such as water and energy) in the hands of the market, abandoning the idea of building public systems. This has led to the great urban crisis, marked by a rising cost of living that generates even greater inequality, segregation and an unsustainable territorial model.

We study the dynamics of the housing and urban systems in depth to make diagnoses with disruptive capacity. We also analyze the impacts of public policies and design instruments to transform cities, promoting social and ecological justice.

Urbanism and ecological transition

One of the main problems of our time is that we live on a finite planet subject to infinite economic and material growth. The model of our cities, including their food systems, mobility networks or the economy of the territory, responds to this logic.

We analyze and accompany public policies and transition programs, whether at municipal, regional or continental scale, to contrast their efficiency and viability. We detect and intervene in strategic ecosocial challenges to promote a just transition.

Situated learning

Researching, learning, constructing new imaginaries and intervening in urban reality often belong to separate departments, even worlds that do not come into contact. A notable part of the academic institution still suffers from and reproduces such division between theorizing, learning, imagining and acting.

We produce a training model that leaves the classroom and confronts the great urban challenges, sharing critical tools for analysis and intervention. We design and coordinate courses, workshops and specific sessions at our headquarters linked to our strategic lines.
